Lake Braies
The Lake Braies is a mountain lake in the Braies Valley, located in the South Tyrolean municipality of Braies, Italy. It's nestled in the Braies Dolomites, part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, and is a protected natural monument.
It's known for its geological formation due to a natural dam resulting from a landslide. The lake has a rich history, including its role in local folklore, the development of tourism with the opening of the Grandhotel Pragser Wildsee in 1899, and its significance during World War II as the site of the liberation of prominent political prisoners in 1945.
Today, it's a popular destination for its natural beauty, hiking trails, and as a filming location.
